about the artist

Amalia Penny is an abstract expressionist watercolour and mixed media artist.

Painting has been her way to connect with the beauty of nature, and used to express a deep appreciation and adoration for our beautiful earth. With a predominantly feminine influence,
her artistic expression often embodies a soft and delicate inflection.

Drawing inspiration from natural themes, her work centers around the pillar of balance, using the elements of movement, texture and colour.

Creating depth through texture, her work balances stronger forms and strokes with more intricate and subtle details that naturally exist together effortlessly and in harmony.

She enjoys experimenting with different colour stories, mixing her love of muted hues with bolder and brighter accents to build narrative and focus.

Movement through the piece is encouraged with the interaction of each form and stroke, and balanced with negative space.

In addition to being an artist, she is also a graphic designer and has a bachelors of design in fashion. She loves all types of movement, interior design, tea, and is obsessed with skincare.

Amalia currently works out of her home studio in St. Louis, where she lives with her husband and rescue dog Bambi.
